Brenda Blethyn received The BAFTA and Golden Globe
Awards for Best Actress for her role as Cynthia in
Mike Leigh’s ‘Secrets & Lies’ (1996), for which she
was also nominated for an Academy Award. Other
work of the popular Ramsgate-born actress includes
‘Little Voice’ (1998), ‘Saving Grace’ (2000),
‘Beyond the Sea’ (2004), ‘Pride & Prejudice’ (2005)
and ‘Atonement’ (2007). Also in 2007, she played a
stand-up comedienne in the film ‘Clubland’ for which
she for which she was recently nominated as
Best Actress in the Australian Film Industry Awards.
