So you think you're funny....funny how?

Film Screening & Awards Ceremony, Saturday 4th April 2009 @ Theatre Royal Margate. Deadline for Film Entries, Wednesday 18th March 2009

Beeping Bush Productions, the team who brought you the 2 Days Later Short Film Competition, are now bringing the sound of laughter back to Margate for the second year of 2 Days Laughter Short Film Competition.

Following the success of the first 2 Days Laughter Screenings and Awards Ceremony at Margate’s Theatre Royal last April, the launch of this year's competition has now been expanded to include a special Young Comic Filmmakers' Award section to allow younger filmmakers to take part.

“We hope that this exciting new Awards Category and Matinee Screening event will now give an opportunity for Kent schools, youth organisations and individuals to try their hand at making us laugh!”
says Mick Etherton, Competition Co-Director

The aim of the 2DLA09 Competition is to seek out new and rising talent amongst filmmakers, writers and comedians, and to help them forge successful comedic film partnerships. This is the opportunity to get work seen by industry professionals, a cinema audience, and highly audience-targeted satellite and broadband channels executives.

“The idea is to give people the opportunity to show, to a live audience, a video of their own comic ideas, made over a weekend with a bunch of mates”

The organisers are looking for films or sketches, stand-up or improvisation routines, of no more than 5 minutes in length, which will be judged by a carefully selected panel of industry professionals.

The best will be screened at the Awards Screenings on Saturday 4th April, 2009, at the Theatre Royal Margate.

Filmmakers, comedians and writers are invited to access the full brief from
here. Entry is free. Entrants may take time to develop their script but the actual shoot and edit must take no more than 48hrs.

“We have already had over 150 requested for this year's Competition Brief in the first week alone”

Over 300 Filmmakers from around the country are expected to pack out the historic Georgian building to watch their funny films, of five minutes or less, in an entertaining and very diverse matinée and evening performances.

“There is always a fantastic atmosphere at these screenings and it's always great to see so many previous 2 Days Later Horror Competition filmmakers now making comedies. Although we get entries from all over the UK and abroad, it's amazing how much home grown filmmaking talent we have in the county. Nearly half the comic films entered last year were from Kent."
Says 2 Days Laughter Co-director, Mick Etherton,

The organisers have also directed a sister event, 2 Days Later, a 48hr Horror Shorts Awards and Festival, every October since 2003, and whose award winning films have enjoyed national Cinema Release and exposure on MeridianTV and BBC1.

The closing date for entries is 5pm on Friday 18th March, 2009.

The competition is supported by Screen South and KCC Arts Investment Programme.
